Betty Irene Moore Fellowship Program for Nurse Leaders and Innovators will accelerate careers of nursing scholars who make substantive changes in health care improvement. Three-year program provides promising scholars leadership development, mentorship and funding to support innovative project.
Understanding microaggressions, improving retention
Nurse researcher Piri Ackerman-Barger works to increase diversity in the health professions workforce to ensure more nurses, physicians and physician assistants represent the communities they serve. She says this begins with more inclusive learning environments to better support underrepresented students. She works with an interprofessional team of researchers to better understand the experiences of minority health professions students.

The school launched a family caregiving course this fall that brings together graduate nursing students along with health providers throughout the region. The practitioners learn how to best interact with and integrate families into the health care team.
