In 2020, the UC Davis School of Medicine secured its highest-ever level of National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding at more than $181 million, an increase of about $4.7 million compared to the previous year.
UC Davis School of Medicine Office of Research
The School of Medicine Office of Research (SOMOR) manages research awards and proposals, oversees laboratory safety and research space, provides researchers with guidance and support for grant submissions, promotes entrepreneurial initiatives, and facilitates industry alliances and program evaluation.

Research Operations
The Research Operations unit facilitates research grant proposals, limited submissions, award nominations, Bridge Funding assessment and research data analytics.

Grants Facilitation
The Grants Facilitation unit supports School of Medicine researchers in their grant writing, manuscript editing, and professional development.

Industry Alliances
The Industry Alliances unit directs industry partner agreements, advises on business and financial matters and supports entrepreneurial translation of discoveries from insight to innovation.

Evaluation
The Evaluation unit collaborates with programs to design evaluation plans with clear, measurable goals and optimal use of resources.

Safety Management
The Safety Management program sets standards for research safety management as well as individual laboratory safety programs and activities.

Research Space Oversight
The Research Space Oversight unit supervises all School of Medicine research space assessments, allocations, and recommendations.
